Help with modem/ router !?
I’m going to be installing a wireless router soon for a PS3, and my modem only has ports labeled “Ethernet” and “USB”. I know I’m supposed to plug the router into the “Ethernet” port but it has been taken up by my voIP service. Is there anyway I can still connect my wireless router through like an adapter or something like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

magic jack + x-box. . . it is possible?
since i cant hook it up right in to the modem in anyway or the wireless router, it has to be plugged in to a computer to process the VOIP data i was wondering if it is possible to hook up the magic jack to my x-box 360 that is hooked up to the internet and have it work like that so i dont use up a computer on it. Would an x-box be able to send and recieve audio and process the VOIP like that??

Should I dump my landline (home phone)?
I have Verizon Wireless (personal), Page Plus Cellular Unlimited Talk n Text (work), and Skype (VoIP). My 77 yr old father has Verizon Wireless. My brother has Nextel National Free Incoming 300 Plan, but going to switch to Page Plus Cellular Unlimited Talk n Text, They both use Yahoo! Voice, Google Voice, and Skype for international calling.
So, what is your opinion: should we disconnect the landline we had for 13 years? If possible, please explain your opinion. You can also add any suggestions, if you wish, Thank you in advance.
Should I get this Gaming Router? Do I have a Modem + Router already?
So, I’m planing on buying this router: http://www. newegg. com/Product/Product. aspx?Item=N82E16833127243
Because I love Online Gaming and I want the best I can get.
However, there are a couple of things I must know first, and for you to help me, you need to know a couple of things too.
I use DSL for Internet, no Cable here. The company provided me with a sort-of Modem when I bought THE 5MB PACKAGE. . . . It’s just one hardware, not a separate Modem + Router. Here is it: http://www. thomsonbroadbandpartner. com/dsl-modems-gateways/products/product-detail. php?id=181
Now, that page lists it a a VoIP Gateway. . . Which I suppose is not the same as a standard DSL Modem. Here are my questions:
Will I have to buy a separate Modem to use the Router I listed at the beginning of the page? Is it worth it?
Will my current 5MB plan support the Router and the new Modem, or does it only support the VoIP Hardware they sent me? I use my phone line and connect it to the VoIP Modem (?) and then from there I go wireless.
Why am I only getting AT THE MOST a 2MB bandwidth reading? Shouldn’t I be at least getting 4MB bandwidth?
Any and all help would be appreciated, and if you have further insight, I’d love it if you can help. ^^
Another router question?
I have Earthlink DSL, and Vonage VOIP on my computer. I want to get my Linksys router hooked up so that two old laptops in the house can also connect to the internet. I am stupid about this. I’ve found out I need wireless adaptor cards for the two laptops. Would it just be better to hook them to the router via a wire? Would it be cheaper? I don’t know how much money I’m looking at here. I want to thank those who reply, your help is really appreciated. Also, if a wireless card is better, do I install it myself? Would Radio Shack help me with this? Comp USA? ACK. . . . I hate this techie stuff !!!

In a dorm and need direct dial lan/phone line. What options do I have and how do I do it?
I will attempt to be as thorough as possible, to get the best answer. I am currently on a college campus, and while we have local phone lines they have not been turned on yet & may not be on at all this semester. If it is ever turned on, it requires numbers to be dialed to dial out. I need a straight phone line. This is not changeable, or negotiable. The device I need to hook up to the phone line cannot have specific dialing rules, and just needs a direct line to dial out to a 800# and receive calls from that 800#.
In the dorms I have a wireless internet connection, and no wired connections. So one option I was thinking of was getting a VoIP product like magicjack, or vonage. Only problem with that is each of those require certain UDP ports to be open, and I’m fairly certain the school firewall will have those blocked.
Along those lines though, I am also in the middle of nowhere, so after looking at all the wireless card providers I found verizon has decent enough coverage to allow me to get wireless internet. So what I can do is hook that up to a desktop computer, and then hookup packet8, vonage or magicjack and use that. Only problem I foresee is I am not sure if Verizon Wireless laptop cards are ‘always on’, which would be required for me to get the calls.
I also know that phone companies used to offer wireless lan line options for people who could not get home phone service because of rural settings or things of that nature. I know little to nothing about that, and was thinking that may also be an option.
So based on all of this, I ask the community what I should do or if you know of any other options. Is my best option to get a Verizon Card & Hookup a VoIP provider to it? Or are there any VoIP providers that can work on a completely wireless network so I can use the school network & not have to leave my computer on 24/7? Or how do I get a wireless lan line?
Long read I know, thanks for your help.

losing internet connection?
I lose my internet connection a couple of times per day. This has happened since i switched service providers from Tiscali to Talktalk. I cannot get help from talktalk unless I phone thier premium rate help line and they just keep you hanging on the phone for hours. I am using a netgear DG834g v2 router and have a pc and 2 wireless laptops connected as well as a Voip phone from Vonage. The problem seems to be independant of how many and which computers are switched on. The connection just disappears and says server not found even though the status lights on the router say all is fine. I reboot the router and even after it has finished rebooting it still takes 9. 5 minutes to reconnect to the internet. I have tried flushing and renewing my ipconfig settings with no success and I have performed speed tests immediately after reconnecting and acheived results well over 2 mbps. The Vonage phone is disconnected whilst the problem occurs as well. Any ideas are most welcome

How to configure a Cable/DSL Router (TPLink TLR860) which is connected with ISP line to share 2 client PCs?
Actually I have seen a network with 1 (TPLink) TL R860 Router, 1 Wireless access Device, 1 Interner Phone Adapter (VoIP) & a Switch, where Broadband ISP comes directly to Router. These devices are connected each other via Cable. The ISP provides a Static IP(58. 68. 25. 125), Static Gateway IP (58. 68. 25. 124), DNS IP(202. 141. 205. 1 , 2) and 2 client PCs configuration is as follows ;
IP :192. 168. 0. 12 (13), Gateway (192. 168. 0. 11, which is Router’s IP), DNS IPs (202. 141. 205. 1 , 2).
Now can anyone help me to learn how to setup this Router with ISP provided information using http://192. 168. 1. 1/ so that I myself can setup the same to give internet connectivity to Clients PCs.

Whats better DSL or RoadRunner?
I currently have Roadrunner from time warner and am very happy with them. I pay them 54. 00 a month to have hoghspeed internet but was recently offered the same speed by my phone company AT&T for 19. 99. whats the differnce, both provide you with dynamic IP. I would imagine that I could still use a wireless router with DSL. Could anyone help me make a descion that at this point looks like I might go with DSL. I also have a VOIP phone from 8X8 that only works when I have highspeed internet. will this work with DSL?

How do I get my Netgear Powerline Adapter to connect to the right router?
I have some Netgear powerline adapters and more than one router in my Network. One router is distributing 192. 168. 1. x addresses and the other is distributing 10. 0. 0. x addresses.
The 192 router is my DSL portal. The other router is a VOIP router and also feeds a wireless access point. I can get the Internet wirelessly from either router.
When I plug a computer into one of the adapters, it connects through the 192 router to the Web. But I want it to connect through the other router for security reasons and in order to hook up a VOIP phone. How can I do this?
I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking. All of the adapters are HDX101

My laptop is slow to load web pages and sometimes they wont load at all despite 900kps connection. ?
I have a laptop with a Intel Pro Wireless BG2200 built in and it connects to a Linksys W54G router, which uses a Belkin 4 Port VoIP ADSL router as a gateway. When I try and browse the web pages will often be slow to load or will suddenly become unavailable (just did it as I was trying to review this question and I had to start again). However when I use the company VPN from the same location and with the same hardware I don’t have those problems. Also, the other desktops that connect wired or wirelessly to the same hardware do not have this problem. My feeling is that it is DNS related but I can’t set a static DNS because I am always on the move and hook up to multiple access points around town.

Problem with netgear router or possibly Laptop issues. ?
The wireless on my laptop keeps disconnecting, from time to time it just disconnects out of the blue and having to reconnect the wireless again.
It happens pretty often which has caused a big issue for me.
I have a netgear wgr613v wireless router, being used together with VOIP.
My laptop is a HP dv6-1129tx.
would be much appreciated if this can be solved.
Nope, signal that is being shown on the computer is perfectly fine.
Sometimes when i am only about . . within 5m away from it, it does the same thing.
Randomly disconnects
how to connect router, switch and vonage to internet?
I have a Motorola Cable Modem connecter to my D-Link WBR1310 Wireless/Wired Router. That router gives me 4 wired ports. I connected my main computer to port #1 on ther router, my Vonage Linksys Voip to port #2 on thr router, my 260 gig network drive to port #3 and a cat5 cable from port #4 to port #1 of my Linksys 5 port group switch. on that group switch I connect two more computers.
The problem I am having is that my vonage (phone) connected is choppy and missing a lot of the signal. if i unplug the switch I get my vonage signal back as normal.
Am I connecting this correct? or can all this be connected and work? please help. . Thanks
Does the Belkin N Router (F5D8233-4) support QoS?
I might buy this router. They mention about Wireless QoS in the manual but nothing else. I am going to plug my Voip phone adapter to the lan port with a wire. I need priority and bandwidth guarantees for VoiP! Does this router has good QoS? if no, which Wireless N Router do you suggest me?

What is a PBX used for?
My organization used to have an audio system and a conferencing bridge, with analog telephone service, to allow anyone to dial into a public conferencing system, to listen to the audio inside the organization, from a phone at home. Now, to save costs, they decided to eliminate the use of a public conferencing system, and decided to just have a private conferencing system, inside the organization. To do this, they decided to get a VoIP phone system. Now, they have a cable modem for VoIP phone service, a Linksys wireless router, and a PBX. Before they got VoIP, they had 2 phone numbers, but I am not sure if they still have the same phone numbers. In this case, what is the PBX used for? Does it act as a bridge for the conferencing system, to allow people to dial in, to listen to the audio coming from the organization? Is there anything else that the PBX could be doing in this organization? Also, why is a PBX necessary?
